"Spanish artist Yolanda DomÃnguez brought the horror of the Rana Plaza building collapse to one of Madrid's busiest shopping districts this month with a "live" performance that underscored the real
fashion victims of unethical clothing production. Inspired by the April
24 disaster in Bangladesh, where at least 1,127 garment workers lost
their lives, Dominguez "buried" several well-dressed women under piles
of rubble, their projecting limbs a clear evocation of the images of mangled bodies that emerged in the tragedy's aftermath."

Ethical Fashion
Can fashion and ethical share the same sentence? Is fashion in its full blown accoutrement ever really sustainable and who, how or what is defining? As the fox in charge of the henhouse has been the way and means of current states of insanity, once again it is up to us. US as in you, me and anyone who wants to state opinions. Like voting with the dollar, we vote and share our opinions with dress.
Fashion is a product of style and style a byproduct of personality and clothing a byproduct of protection from the elements, which is a good thing for furless critters like us.
A cute story about the first accessory was in the book "Art and Fashion" (Marcel Vertes in collaboration with Bryan Holme, 1944) Eve is looking into a stream (Narcissus adapted to the feminine is another path for another time!) when a leaf falls from the tree above and lands on her head. She appreciates the look and twists the stem into her hair, thus inventing the first hat. (She also runs to get Adam's approval and therein lies the Venus Mars "story" that is perpetuated through culture via experts interviewing the seduced, reflecting the reflection )
Fashion as an indicatorof the social construct has been woven throughout written history and even before, however, it never hurts to unravel the lot and see the silly along with the sublime.
Appreciating the truth of the whole sets loose a whole palette of grey areas and much like black and white photography (Ansel Adams early master was all about the gray tones) the richness is in the depth of the play between light and dark.

Labor Behind the Label
Killer Jeans
Labor Behind the Label is now following me on Twitter. I usually check to see who new followers are and thank the ones that appear genuinely active in paradigm shift work. I found out that LB the L is behind the "Clean Clothes Campaign" and that sand blasted jeans are exposing workers to a practice that jeopardizes lung health.
I want to go into a tirade about corporate bully tactics "pushed" by "shareholders" and/or other "stakeholders" in the capitalist blame game that minimizes guilt..."if we don't do it someone else will" NICE, as spreading of the guilt allows bad practices to multiply, but I will stop here.
The truth is, we can take the phrase and make it our own. If we don't awaken and say no to the bad karma and the energy of distress that our consumer economic lifestyles generate, we will barely see the light of our unique and our collective true potentials. Saying no to goods that are made cheap by exploiting humans, animals and natural resources weakens the fabric of life and that rots the thread of existence.

the Victoria and Albert Museum
Designers Sarah Ratty of Ciel, Christian Kemp-Griffin from Edun and Matilda Lee from the Ecologist were the guest speakers and the question of the day was “is green still the new black?”
The discussion was pointed towards trade and labor practices in the industry. The full house showed that people are aware and concerned.
However right now cheap clothing sales are rising. Quality and personal style are lost in the propaganda of a throw away world. Trouble is that when we throw away this world we pretty much go with it!
ignorance isn't bliss- its now just tacky denial.
